HALKIDIKI

Located on the coast of the Aegean Sea, Greece Halkidiki is distinguished by its shape: a palm with three outstretched fingers - the peninsulas called Kassandra, Sithonia and Athos.

Holidays in Greece Halkidiki are quite different on these peninsulas.
Halkidiki, Greece has hotels for every taste and budget. Because of this, and also because of the beautiful sandy beaches and the bays, the peninsula is appreciated by tourists more than any other.
Sithonia is known for its azure shores, cosy harbours and olive groves, as well as its many bars and night clubs.

Athos is suitable for lovers of seclusion. There is a unique monastic republic within its borders, preserving priceless manuscripts and icons.
Mount Athos is the furthest from Halkidiki International Airport (120 km). The closest peninsula is Kassandra (90 km). In the middle of the island is Sithonia (100 km).

Tours in Halkidiki are very popular with tourists. Excursions in Halkidiki are extremely exciting. From any of the fingers of the peninsula of Halkidiki you can go on a boat trip. Cruise ships leave every  hour from Ormos

Panagias bay of Sithonia Peninsula and from the Prosfori Tower of Ouranoupoli to sail along Mount Athos. However, not everyone will be able to get ashore at Mount Athos. For a woman, this is not allowed at all. A man has to ask permission.

Mount Athos is the only independent monastic state in the world, the spiritual centre of Orthodox Christianity. It has always been a source of inspiration for many generations and played a leading role in the national struggle of Greeks for physical and spiritual freedom. It is also the birthplace of Greek printing and also the place where the school of icons of Mount Athos was founded.

Sithonia, unlike bustling Kassandra, offers a quieter holiday in nature and the most exotic and secluded beaches in the whole Aegean. The peninsula is named after one of the sons of Poseidon. It is famous for its unique landscape, combining mountains with pine forests and a coastline rugged with picturesque bays. The coastal towns of Agios Nikolaos, Vourvourou, Metamorfossi, Neos Marmaras and Nikiti are the most popular tourist destinations of Sithonia. Here you can stroll through the picturesque narrow streets, do some shopping or try the unique Greek cuisine in one of the local tavernas.
